As we reach the end of the final week of term, we have, once again lots to celebrate in the life of Year 3!
RE
This week, we’ve introduced the children to the basics of Judaism- what it means to be Jewish and the importance of faith and tradition in Jewish life. We talked about how Judaism traces back thousands of years and how it has influenced other major religions, like Christianity and Islam. The children were fascinated to learn about the rich cultural and spiritual heritage that comes with this ancient faith.
One of the central parts of our learning, has been examining the Ten Commandments, which the children learnt, are a set of moral guidelines given to the Jewish people by God. We also delved into the Torah, which is the most sacred text in Judaism. The children were particularly intrigued by how the Torah is read during Jewish worship services, with great respect and care, and how it teaches not only religious practices but also values like fairness and compassion.
Throughout our lessons, the children have participated in lively discussions, asked thoughtful questions, and engaged in creative activities to deepen their understanding. It’s been a rewarding experience for the children.
Maths
This week in maths, year 3 have been learning how to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100 using number lines. At first, rounding can seem like a tricky concept, but using number lines helped everyone to see exactly where numbers belong and which multiples of ten or hundred they are closest to.
The number lines were a great visual tool, helping the children to understand the idea of distance between numbers and why rounding works the way it does. As the week went on, children grew more confident and began tackling some challenging examples, explaining their reasoning clearly and supporting one another’s learning. By the end of the week, everyone had made excellent progress and could confidently round numbers in a range of contexts. Well done, mathematicians!
English
The children have really impressed with how they have used and applied their knowledge from their thematic learning to enhance their writing. They included fascinating facts about Stone Age life, from how people hunted and gathered food, to the tools they used and the types of homes they built.
As part of their reports, children worked on organising information clearly using headings, subheadings, and technical vocabulary. They focused on writing in a formal, informative style while making sure their reports were engaging for the reader. It was wonderful to see how confidently the children connected what they had learned in history with their English work. Their final pieces show just how much progress they’ve made as writers this term. A fantastic end to the term’s learning — well done, everyone!
