What a fun week we've had in English! The children really got stuck into writing narratives about a mishap at school. It was fantastic to see their creativity shine through as they weaved in action, dialogue, and description to bring their stories to life. Some wild scenarios unfolded, from accidentally setting off the fire alarm to a pet hamster making a daring escape in the classroom! The enthusiasm was infectious, and it's clear that they’ve grasped how to make their narratives engaging. Next week, we are looking at space poetry!
Maths
This week in our maths lessons, the children have been diving into the world of multiplying and dividing by 10, 100, and 1000. It's been fantastic to see them apply their known facts to help tackle these concepts. The lightbulb moments have been delightful, as they realise how these operations can make numbers more manageable. We’ve enjoyed using practical examples to reinforce their learning. Overall, their enthusiasm has made for a lively classroom, and they’re now more confident when it comes to larger numbers. Next week, the children will be using short and long multiplication and carrying out an investigation using problem solving.
Thematic
What a fantastic week we've had in year 5! The children have dived into the fascinating world of space exploration, learning all about Galileo and his groundbreaking discoveries. We've explored the thrilling space race and discussed the monumental achievement of the first landing on the moon. Their curiosity and excitement have been infectious, with many sharing their own thoughts on what it must have been like to be an astronaut. It’s incredible to see them drawing connections between past events and our present understanding of the universe. Next week we delve into space disasters and the role women played in the space race.
