Term 2: Walk Like an Egyptian

This term in Year 4 we are learning about the Ancient Egyptians. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term. We look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.

English:

This week in English, we continued on the journey with Marcy to save her father from the belly of the sphinx. We planned and wrote the beginning of a setting description for the sphinx, using fronted adverbials to describe the features in more detail.

Next week we will finish the setting description and will write a character description of Marcy, focusing on how her character has developed over the course of the book.

Maths:

In maths this week, we continued with our multiplication and division unit by multiplying three 1-digit numbers together and by beginning to use a formal written method for short multiplication.

Next week we will continue with using formal written methods for multiplication and will introduce division.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week during our afternoon lessons, we were introduced to the ancient Egyptians. We looked at the social hierarchy on Wednesday and enjoyed our visits to Maidstone Museum on Thursday and Friday. The children were very well behaved and enjoyed looking at a real mummy, many artefacts from 3000 years ago and making their own canopic jar out of clay.
