Weekly Update 05.12.25

Year 6 Blog – What a Week!
Wow – what an incredible week Year 6 has had! We must start by celebrating our outstanding Year Six children, who truly shone during our Open Day event on Wednesday. They took on roles as tour guides, computing experts, artists, Mandarin speakers, and sports champions. The praise from our prospective Year 3 parents was unprecedented – true Uptonians in action!
We ended the week with our annual whole-school trip to the Marlow Theatre to see this year’s pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. What a performance! Year 6 were fantastic role models throughout the trip. A special shoutout goes to Mr Mason, who was chosen to be a love interest for one of the main characters and even got up on stage – what a moment!
English
In English, the children have been developing their understanding of Viking longboats to write a detailed report, strengthening their non-fiction writing skills and linking their thematic learning to English.
Maths
In Maths, we’ve continued to deepen our knowledge of fractions – adding, subtracting, and finding the lowest common denominator. These skills are vital for success in the KS2 SATs in May, as fractions appear in all three papers and form one of the most heavily tested areas.
Thematic & RE
Our thematic learning took a short pause this week while we focused on RE. Year 6 explored Christianity, and visited Broadstairs Baptist Church for workshops about the events of Christmas – and even made some mince pies!
Christmas Art Competition
It’s that wonderful time of year again! We’re inviting all pupils to take part in our Christmas Art Competition. The challenge: create a Christmas decoration inspired by an artist or art style.
You can use any materials – card, paint, collage, recycled objects, fabric, glitter – anything that makes your decoration shine!
Deadline: Last day of term.
Entries will be displayed on our school Christmas tree art display, and prizes will be awarded for outstanding work. Winners announced in our next Art Assembly!
