Weekly Update – 12.12.25

Following last week’s exciting events—where the children acted as tour guides and enjoyed the whole-school trip to the Marlow Theatre—this week has been a little quieter, but still full of focused learning! The children are working hard in the run-up to the Christmas holidays, ready for next week’s festive fun: the disco, Christmas lunch, and year group party.

The week ended with a bang at the Christmas Fair! Year 6 showcased incredible creativity and teamwork, running their own stalls with flair and enthusiasm. A huge thank you to our parent community for supporting the children in making this event such a success.

 

English

In English, the children have written a biography of our main character, Gunnar Bjornsson, from Viking Boy. They explored his courageous nature and tragic backstory, developing their writing skills and deepening their understanding of the text. Gunnar’s journey—driven by grief and a quest for revenge—has sparked some fantastic discussions and thoughtful writing.

Maths

We’ve continued to strengthen our understanding of fractions, comparing them to decimals and percentages—key knowledge for success in the KS2 SATs in May.

Thematic & RE

This week, the children completed their RE unit on Christianity and revisited key learning points from our Viking topic, reflecting on the impact Vikings had on Great Britain.

Homework

• Read at least 3 times a week with your child.
• Use ZPD to choose books and complete quizzes on Accelerated Reader.
• Play TTRS at least 3 times a week.
• Complete Mathletics homework by next Friday.
• Practice 10 spellings each week using the format in the book.
