One Childhood - One Chance

18.12.25 Year 3 Weekly News

What a fantastic term!

RE

In RE this week, we have been learning about Christianity and exploring what Christians believe and how they worship. We looked at Christianity as one of the world’s major religions and learnt about the importance of faith in the lives of Christians. We discovered that Christians believe in one God and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, who they believe is the Son of God. We talked about key beliefs such as love, forgiveness, kindness, and helping others, which are central to Christian life. We also learnt about how Christians worship. This includes praying, reading the Bible, and attending church services. We explored what happens during a church service and also discussed the importance of special places like churches and symbols such as the cross.

Maths

In maths this week, we have continued our learning about length and perimeter. We focused on understanding how to measure, compare, and apply these skills to different problems. We practised measuring lengths using rulers and other measuring tools, making sure to use the correct units. We also compared different lengths to decide which were longer or shorter and by how much. This helped us become more accurate and confident when measuring. We then applied our learning to perimeter, finding the distance around shapes. We worked out perimeters by adding all the sides together and used our measuring skills to solve real-life problems, such as finding the perimeter of objects in the classroom.

English

This week in English, we’ve been exploring instructional writing in a fun and creative way. Instead of writing ordinary recipes, we were given an exciting challenge: create a fictional recipe for Iron Man. We imagined Iron Man visiting a high-end restaurant. Since he’s made of metal, his meals had to be metallic dishes packed with strength, shine, and power. Our task was to write clear instructions, just like a real recipe, explaining how to prepare his extraordinary food. Some of the dishes included sizzling steel  stir-fries, molten metal soups, and chrome-coated desserts. Even though the recipes were fictional, we still had to think carefully about structure and clarity, just as we would in real instructional writing.

Reminders for Term 3:

  • We welcome children back to school on Monday 5th January.

  • 3B and 3G will have their swimming sessions on Thursdays. Children will need to come dressed in their PE kit to school on this day, and bring with them their swimming costumes to change into.

  • Swimming kit reminder:  full swimming costume/swim shorts and swimming hat.

  • Children to bring in healthy snacks for break times.

  • Children must wear coats to school.

British Sign Language

This term, our Language of the Term has been British Sign Language (BSL). The children have really enjoyed learning how to communicate using signs and understanding the importance of inclusion and communication for everyone. The Year 3 children have been especially busy learning the Christmas song “Jingle Bells” in BSL. They worked hard to practise the signs, follow the rhythm of the music, and perform together confidently. We are delighted to share that the children have recorded their performance for you to watch. Please visit our school Facebook page to view the video and enjoy their wonderful efforts.

We hope you enjoy watching it as much as the children enjoyed learning it-happy viewing! 🎄✨

Merry Christmas!

As the term draws to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible time we’ve shared and celebrate the wonderful achievements of your children. This week has been brimming with festive cheer, and we couldn’t be prouder of how Year 3 has embraced the magic of Christmas at Upton.

From the excitement of our Christmas School Dinners, where the children enjoyed delicious festive treats, to the joy and laughter at our Christmas Party, the week has been packed with memorable moments. The Christmas Disco was a particular highlight, with Year 3 showing off their best dance moves and spreading happiness all around.

The children have truly made this week, and the entire term, special. Their enthusiasm, kindness, and creativity have been at the heart of everything we’ve done. Thank you, Year 3, for making Christmas at Upton so magical!

We also want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the families who have supported us throughout this term. Your encouragement, participation, and kindness mean so much to us and make all the difference.

As we head into the holidays, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful Christmas and a Happy New Year. May this festive season bring you warmth, laughter, and time to create beautiful memories together.

Thank you once again for being such an important part of our Upton family. We can’t wait to see what the new term will bring!

With warmest wishes,
The Year 3 Team 🎅🌟
