Term 3 Week 1

Happy new year to you all! We are looking forward to more excitement and learning in 2026!

PD day

As we kick off the new term, our first PD day was dedicated to PSHE, where the children engaged in meaningful discussions about their aspirations for the year ahead. It was heartwarming to see their enthusiasm as they shared their resolutions, reflecting on personal growth and goals they hope to achieve.

The focus on role models added an inspiring dimension to our morning. Each child took the time to think about someone who has positively influenced their lives. They expressed their gratitude by writing heartfelt thank you letters, recognising the impact these role models have had on their journeys.

This engaging start to the term not only fosters a sense of community but also encourages our students to think critically about their aspirations and the importance of gratitude. We look forward to seeing how these discussions shape their experiences throughout the year!

English

This week, we embarked on an exciting journey with our new book, Anglo Saxon Boy. The children were eager to dive into the world of storytelling, and we focused on crafting three different types of openers: action, dialogue, and description. It was wonderful to see their creativity flourish as they experimented with these techniques.

After our discussions, the students wrote their own narratives, incorporating the skills we had practised throughout the week. A key focus was on using powerful verbs to bring their stories to life. The energy in the classrooms was palpable as they shared their narratives, each one unique and full of imagination. It’s truly rewarding to witness their growth as writers, and we can’t wait to see where their storytelling takes them next!

Maths

This week in our classrooms, we continued our journey into the fascinating world of decimals and fractions! We started by converting decimals to fractions, which helped us see the connections between these two forms of numbers. The students enjoyed ordering and comparing both fractions and decimals, discovering how to place them accurately on a number line.

We also explored thousandths, which added an exciting layer to our understanding. The children were particularly engaged when we tackled converting improper fractions to mixed numbers, as they enjoyed the challenge of transforming one form into another.

It’s wonderful to witness their growing confidence and enthusiasm as they grasp these concepts. Learning about fractions and decimals not only enhances their mathematical skills but also prepares them for more complex topics ahead. Keep up the great work, everyone!

PSHE

This week, our afternoons have been buzzing with excitement as the children dive into the fascinating world of money! They have been learning about its importance and value, which is crucial for their future.

In a fun twist, our young entrepreneurs designed their very own business plans, inspired by the popular show Dragon’s Den. Each child had the chance to pitch their ideas, showcasing their creativity and ambition. They also created a monthly budget, helping them understand how to manage finances effectively.

Additionally, we introduced the term “critical consumer,” encouraging the children to think carefully about their spending choices. This engaging approach not only teaches them essential life skills but also fosters a sense of responsibility and independence. It’s been a fantastic week of learning, and we can’t wait to see how these budding business minds continue to grow!
