What a fantastic week it has been. The children have shown brilliant resilience and determination in all areas of their learning, and we are incredibly proud of their positive attitudes.

English

This week, the children began their revision in preparation for the upcoming SATs in Term 5.
They have been developing key reading skills, including:

• Using context to understand unfamiliar vocabulary
• Identifying how language choices affect meaning
• Spotting key words in questions to determine what the answer must include

These strategies will help them feel confident navigating the different question types they will encounter.

Maths

In Maths, the children have refreshed their understanding of important concepts such as:

• Multiplication
• Place value
• Rounding

They have been applying these skills across a variety of question types and will continue revising a range of topics over the coming weeks as SATs preparation continues.

Thematic Learning – World War Two

Our new topic has sparked great curiosity and thoughtful discussion. This week, the children deepened their knowledge of:

• The causes of World War Two
• Why evacuations took place
• What the Blitz was and its impact on the country

The children have engaged brilliantly with the historical content and are building a strong understanding of the period.

Homework Reminders

• Reading: Please read with your child at least three times per week.
• Accelerated Reader: Children should choose books within their ZPD range and complete a quiz upon finishing (in school or at home).
• Times Tables: TTRS at least three times weekly.
• Mathletics: This week’s task is set and due next Friday.
• Thematic Homework: Our new WW2-themed homework menu is ready — we’re excited to see what the children create over this two‑term project!
• Spellings: Choose 10 spellings each week and practise using the strategies shown in their spelling journal.
