Term 4: Innovation Station
This term in Year 4 we are learning about electricity and exploring the early Islamic civilisation. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term. We look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.
English:
This week in English, we finished reading The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. The children enjoyed embarking on the journey with him. Our writing this week focused on recounting Edward’s journey through a progressive setting description. The children used a variety of clause structures as well as a range of adjectives to describe the different locations.
Across the week, Paddle Media have been in to work with 4B, 4R and 4Y during an English session to explore news reporting, which they thoroughly enjoyed.
Next week we will write a poem to reflect Edward’s emotions throughout the book.
Maths:
In maths this week, we continued working with decimals. As well as adding tenths mentally using number bonds and known facts, we introduced hundredths. The children looked at different representations, including Dienes, fractions, decimals and number lines.
Next week we will continue working with decimals, including fraction equivalents.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week during our afternoon lessons, we began looking at the early Islamic civilisation and how it compared to life in Europe at the time. We explored how Baghdad was the hub of mathematics and science, and how inventions during this period were a precursor to inventions we have today. It is a fascinating period of time that the children have enjoyed asking questions about.
Next week we will continue with the early Islamic civilisation by exploring the Silk Road.
On Friday, ACTS came in to complete an Easter activity with 4G and 4R. They explored the story of Easter through mini workshops and drama. They had a great afternoon and learnt lots.
