Year Six – Friday 27th March

Resilience and determination in full force!
Dear Parents and Carers,
The Year 6 team are extremely proud of the children. They’ve had another fantastic week and continue to show wonderful resilience, determination and positivity in everything they do. They should all feel very proud of themselves!
English
This week, the children have started their revision in preparation for the upcoming SATs in Term 5.
They have been focusing on key reading skills, including:
- Using the rest of a sentence or paragraph to work out unfamiliar vocabulary
- Understanding how an author’s language choices affect meaning
- Spotting key words in questions so they know exactly what the answer needs to include
These strategies will really help them feel confident when tackling the different types of questions they’ll see in the reading paper.
Maths
In Maths, the children have been refreshing their understanding of several important areas:
- Fractions, decimals and percentages
- Finding equivalent fractions
- Adding and subtracting fractions
- Long multiplication
They’ve been practising these skills through a variety of questions and will continue revising a range of topics as we move closer to SATs.
Thematic Learning – World War Two
Our new topic on World War Two has already inspired so much curiosity. This week, the children explored:
- What the Blitz was and how it affected the country
- What everyday life was like on the Homefront
The children have shown great interest and maturity, and they’re developing a strong understanding of this important period in history.
