Term 5: Water World
This term in Year 4 we are learning about rivers and the Water Cycle. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term. We look forward to seeing more fabulous projects.

English:
This week in English, we created a non-chronological report for our own original mythological creature, which we will use next week for our narrative writing. We wrote about their appearance, habitat, diet and special abilities.
Next week we write a narrative inspired by Song of the Dolphin Boy staring our own mythological creature.
Maths:
In maths this week, we continued to explore area and investigated the relationship between area and perimeter in rectangles.
Next week we will begin our new unit of measurement.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week during our afternoon lessons, we looked at rivers around the UK and found out about some rivers from around the world. We plotted the rivers on a map and compared their length and other interesting facts.
Next week we will be understanding the reasons why people live near rivers and will compare water use in the UK to a different country.
4B and 4Y visited Westgate Gardens in Canterbury to conduct a pond dipping session. They also walked around Hambrook Marshes spotting the features of rivers and any local wildlife.
