Term 5: Water World
This term in Year 4 we are learning about rivers and the Water Cycle. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term. We look forward to seeing more fabulous projects.
English:
This week in English, we wrote a narrative about a boy or girl morphing into an original mythological creature when they enter the water. This was to enable them to solve a problem. The focus was to create a setting, character and plot through the use of appropriate vocabulary choices. The story first set the scene through a choice of action, dialogue or descriptive beginning, built to a problem, which was then resolved.
Next week we write a persuasive letter to ban plastics and the new supermarket opening.
Maths:
In maths this week, we have been converting between mm and cm, and m and cm. We explored different measures, including grams and kilograms for mass, litres and millilitres for capacity, and millimetres, centimetres and metres for length.
Next week we will continue our measurement work and will introduce money.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week during our afternoon lessons, we explored why people choose to live near rivers and produced a double page spread with lots of reasons and examples. We also compared the UK with Kenya to see how the usage and availability of water differ. We also looked at the differences between the average temperatures and rainfall for each country.
Next week we will be looking at changing states of matter.
