Thematic

This week, the children began their exciting new thematic topic, "Rainforests Revealed." They have already shown great enthusiasm and curiosity as they started exploring this fascinating area of learning.

In Science, the children began their learning about plants. They investigated what plants need to grow and discussed how scientists carry out a fair test. The children set up their own investigations and will be making observations over time to monitor changes and record their findings.

As part of their learning, the children carefully dissected a plant, identifying and examining the different parts, including the roots, stem, leaves, and flowers. They also explored how water travels through plants, helping them understand the important role each part plays in keeping a plant healthy and growing.

The children have enjoyed working scientifically, asking questions, making predictions, and developing their observation skills.

 

            

  

Next week, we will be extending our learning by exploring biomes around the world, discovering the different environments found across our planet and comparing them to the rainforest biome.

English

This week in English, the children have been exploring the feelings of Fern during the events of the first chapter of Charlotte's Web. Through close reading and discussion, they have been making inferences about how Fern feels towards her father and the situation she faces at the beginning of the story.

The children have been developing their understanding of how an author uses language to convey characters' emotions and help readers connect with their experiences. They have carefully examined key vocabulary and discussed how specific words and phrases influence the reader's understanding of Fern's feelings.

As part of this learning, the children have explored the use of emotive language and considered the impact it has on the reader. They have identified examples within the text and discussed how these choices help to create empathy and engagement.

This work will support the children as they begin writing their own recounts next week, where they will apply their understanding of emotive language and effective vocabulary choices to communicate thoughts, feelings, and experiences clearly to their readers.

Maths

This week in Maths, the children have started an exciting new topic: Measure.

The children have been developing their understanding of weight by learning how to read a variety of scales accurately and record measurements. They have practised interpreting different intervals on scales and used their knowledge to measure and compare weights with increasing confidence. Through a range of activities, the children have strengthened their measuring skills and developed their understanding of the units used to measure weight. They’ve also been encouraged to explain their reasoning and discuss how they know their measurements are accurate.

Next week, the children will continue their learning by measuring and comparing the weight of different objects in a practical and hands-on way. They will apply their understanding of reading scales to real-life situations and investigate how objects can be compared using appropriate mathematical vocabulary.

Hinduism Workshop

Today, the children took part in an engaging Hinduism workshop where they explored the beliefs, practices, and traditions of the Hindu faith. During the workshop, the children learnt about key Hindu beliefs and how these influence the daily lives of Hindu people. They discussed important practices, including worship and celebrations, and gained a deeper understanding of the values that are important within Hinduism.

The children also had the opportunity to handle and examine a variety of artefacts. They carefully explored these objects and learnt about their significance and use within Hindu worship and traditions. This hands-on experience helped bring their learning to life and encouraged thoughtful questions and discussions.

The workshop was an enjoyable and informative experience, giving the children valuable insight into Hindu beliefs and practices while promoting respect and understanding of different faiths and cultures.

      

 

      

Sports Day 

On Wednesday morning, the children enjoyed taking part in our Sports Day activities. They showed great enthusiasm, determination, and teamwork as they competed in a variety of races and participated in an exciting rounders tournament.

It was wonderful to see everyone encouraging one another and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship throughout the morning. The children had lots of fun while developing their athletic skills and celebrating being active together.

Unfortunately, due to the rainy weather, the afternoon Sports Day activities had to be postponed. These events will now take place on Monday 22nd June, and we are delighted to invite parents to join us and support the children as they take part in the remaining activities.

We look forward to seeing you there and completing our Sports Day celebrations together!

      

Reading  

Children have now taken their Star Reader Assessment and have been issued with their adjusted ZPD code, which is now stuck into their reading records. Children are reminded to bring their reading records in when they have read- we expect children to read at least, three times a week.  

Home Learning  

Attached below is the overarching Thematic Curriculum homework ideas. Please refer to the homework menu which gives a variety of creative tasks for the children to choose from. Children only need to complete one task as a minimum, but can choose to complete more if they wish.   

Home Learning is due in on Wednesday 15^th July.

Year 3 Wingham trip

The Year 3 trip to Wingham Wildlife Park will now be taking place on Tuesday 7^th July. Please see a copy of the letter below.  

Reminder to ensure:  

• Children are wearing correct school uniform and shoes.  

• Children are bringing in their water bottles.  

• Coats are being worn to school when it’s raining.

• Children to bring in healthy snacks for breaktimes
