Term 6: My Home, Your Home

This term in Year 4 we are learning about our local town - Broadstairs. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term; we look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.

English:

This week in English, we continued to read The Boy at the Back of the Class. Throughout one of the chapters, there was a pomegranate hunt. We used this as inspiration to look at a pomegranate in detail and describe it using expanded noun phrases and subordinating conjunctions.

Next week we will write a dialogue for some of the characters.

Maths:

In maths this week, we began our shape unit. It started by looking at different angles and we made an angle maker using split pins and card to help us decide what type of angle we had. We also looked at the properties of 2-D shapes.

Next week we will continue to look at shape, including quadrilaterals and triangles.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week during our afternoon lessons, we looked at why Broadstairs is a wonderful place to live and created posters to celebrate our favourite places. We then looked at 4-figure grid references and OS symbols. We combined the two to go on a treasure hunt around the outside of the school.

On Friday, the children had an assembly with a Hindu monk, who brought in some wonderful artefacts for the children to see. He explained what it is like to be a Hindu and a bit more about the religion.

Next week we will be going on a town trail around Broadstairs and will create a fieldwork report.

MTC update

The children have been fabulous during the MTC period. They worked exceptionally well and approached it with a mature attitude. The school will receive the results towards the end of the month, and they will be shared via MCAS once they have been processed. Many thanks for your support with your children learning their times tables, and this should continue as they move into Year 5.
