03.07.26 Year 3 Weekly News

Wow- what a week!
Thematic
This week in Thematic, the children have been learning about deforestation and endangered animals, exploring the important concept of cause and effect. They discussed how human actions can have a significant impact on the world's rainforests and the animals that call them home, while also considering the positive changes we can all make to help protect these precious environments.
As part of their learning, the children created thought-provoking pieces of artwork designed to encourage others to think about the role we all play in saving the rainforest. Their creative work highlighted powerful messages about conservation, sustainability, and caring for our planet.
Next week, we will be moving on to our RE learning, where we will begin exploring Hinduism. The children will learn about key beliefs, traditions, and celebrations, developing their understanding and appreciation of different faiths and cultures.

Maths
This week in Maths, the children have continued to develop their problem-solving skills by tackling a range of mathematical challenges. They have used bar models alongside formal written methods to help them understand problems, identify the important information, and work systematically towards accurate solutions. It has been wonderful to see the children growing in confidence as they explain their reasoning and apply their mathematical knowledge in different contexts.
Next week, we will begin an exciting new unit on Place Value and Number. This learning will help to strengthen the children's understanding of numbers and prepare them for the expectations of Year 4, ensuring they have a secure foundation for the next stage of their mathematical journey.
English
This week in English, the children have been working hard on writing their explanation texts about how spiders make a web. They have carefully organised their ideas, using clear steps and technical vocabulary to explain each stage of the process. It has been fantastic to see the children developing their writing skills and showing a strong understanding of how to structure an explanation text.
Next week, the children will be publishing their work into a booklet. They will focus on presentation and layout features, including headings, diagrams, and captions, to support and enhance their writing. This will give them the opportunity to showcase their learning in a creative and engaging way.
Wingham Wildlife Park trip
We are very excited about our upcoming trip to Wingham Wildlife Park on Tuesday 7th July. The children are looking forward to a fantastic day of learning and exploring.
As the weather is expected to be hot, we have put a number of precautions in place to ensure that everyone enjoys the day safely and comfortably. We would be grateful if you could support us by ensuring your child has the following:
-
A disposable water bottle, as there are water refill stations around the park where children will be able to top up their water throughout the day.
-
A sun hat to help protect them from the sun.
-
Sun cream applied before arriving at school. Please also send your child with an easy-to-apply bottle or roll-on sun cream so they can reapply it during the day if needed.
To help keep everyone comfortable throughout the day, please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit and trainers.
Please be reassured that we will prioritise activities in shaded areas wherever possible. The park has plenty of shaded spaces, as well as a number of indoor animal enclosures that the children will be visiting, helping us to keep everyone as cool and comfortable as possible. We will also ensure that children have regular opportunities to rest, drink water and refill their bottles throughout the day.
Thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to a wonderful day at Wingham Wildlife Park with the children.
Reading
Children have now taken their Star Reader Assessment and have been issued with their adjusted ZPD code, which is now stuck into their reading records. Children are reminded to bring their reading records in when they have read- we expect children to read at least, three times a week.
Home Learning
Attached below is the overarching Thematic Curriculum homework ideas. Please refer to the homework menu which gives a variety of creative tasks for the children to choose from. Children only need to complete one task as a minimum, but can choose to complete more if they wish.
Home Learning is due in on Wednesday 15th July.
Reminder to ensure:
-
Children are wearing correct school uniform and shoes.
-
Children are bringing in their water bottles.
