One Childhood - One Chance

Year 4 Weekly News – Friday 03.07.26

We have had a fabulous week in Year 4 this week. Take a look at what we have been up to…

Key Messages for next week…

Monday 6th July – School Disco straight after school. Children can come to school dressed in their party clothes.

Thursday 9th – Upton’s Got Talent – well done to all the acts who are in the final.

  • Tuesday is swimming for 4R and 4Y. Please ensure that full swimming kit is brought in on that day. If your child cannot take part, please contact their teacher or the office to explain why. Children MUST have a swim cap and earrings removed.
  • Children can come to school in their PE kit on swimming days.
  • Please ensure children are wearing correct school uniform and shoes, including a tie.
  • Please ensure children are bringing in their water bottles every day, preferably with a sports cap.
  • Wellies are needed so that the children can access the field during break and lunch times.

Weekly homework tasks:

Reading daily – please bring in your reading record signed by an adult.

TTRS - at least 3 times a week for 10 minutes.

Mathletics – Friday to Friday

Spelling – Please choose approximately 5 words from the Year 3/4 word list to complete ‘look, say, cover, write, check’. This should be completed in the orange Home Learning book and returned to school to be checked by the class teacher.

AR Quizzes – complete on Accelerated Reader once book has been completed. This can be done at home or at school.

Please note, Mathletics has a different login to AR and TTRS.

***Well done to everyone who has received a certificate so far for either Mathletics or TTRS***

Term 6: My Home, Your Home

This term in Year 4 we are learning about our local town - Broadstairs. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term; we look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.

English:

This week in English, we continued to write the narrative of Ahmet’s journey from Syria to London. We ensured we used verbs and adverbs to bring atmosphere to our writing.

Next week we will write a news report.

Maths:

In maths this week, we have been looking at patterns and sequences. We used conjecture for what we thought would continue the sequence. We also used manipulatives to support our thinking and build the pattern.

Next week we will begin to look at 3D shapes.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week during our afternoon lessons, we looked at the essentials that living things require. We put animals into different groups and classified them based on their features. In addition to this, we looked at changing environments and how these affect animal habitats.

Next week we will have an RE focus.
