One Childhood - One Chance

Scientist of the Term- Year 3

Read on to find out more...

Following feedback from our children at the end of the last academic year, we are excited to introduce a brand-new Scientist of the Term initiative!

Our children told us that they would like to learn more about inspirational scientists and the amazing discoveries they have made. We hope that this will encourage our pupils to be curious, ask questions and discover that science is all around us.

Autumn Term 1: William Gilbert

Our Scientist of the Term for Autumn 1 in Year 3 is William Gilbert.

William Gilbert was an English scientist and physician who lived over 400 years ago. He is particularly famous for his investigations into magnetism and electricity. His work helped people understand more about magnets and how they behave, laying the foundations for some of the scientific discoveries that followed.

Your Challenge!

We would like our Year 3 children to find out more about William Gilbert and create a piece of work all about him.

Your work could include:

  • Interesting facts about William Gilbert

  • Information about his scientific discoveries

  • Drawings or diagrams

  • A timeline of his life

  • An explanation of his work on magnetism

  • A poster, fact file or presentation

  • Anything else that shows what you have learned!

Be creative, curious and scientific!

 Important Date

Please hand your completed work to your class teacher by Thursday 16th October.

All entries will then be passed to our Science Lead, Mrs Crowe-White, who will choose the piece of work that shows the most impressive learning, creativity and enthusiasm for science.

🏆 The winning child will receive a certificate and a prize, which will be presented during our celebration assembly in the final week of the term.

We can't wait to see what our budding scientists discover about William Gilbert!

Good luck, Year 3- happy investigating!
