Key Messages for Next Week…

• Thursday is swimming for 4B and 4G. Please ensure that full swimming kit is brought in on that day. If your child cannot take part, please contact their teacher or the office to explain why. Children MUST have a swim cap and earrings removed.
• Children can come to school in their PE kit on swimming days.
• Please ensure children are wearing correct school uniform and shoes, including a tie.
• Please ensure children are bringing in their water bottles every day, preferably with a sports cap.
• Wellies are needed so that the children can access the field during break and lunch times.
• Please ensure children always have a coat in school as they will access outdoor areas in all weathers.
• PE is on a Wednesday. Children to come to school in their PE kit.

English:

This week in English, we started our next text: Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx. We wrote an adventure journal detailing the events during the beginning of the story and thought about alternative presentations. We focused on using coordinating conjunctions to link ideas and create compound sentences.

Next week, we will be writing a setting description of the desert and the sphinx. On Thursday, we will also be celebrating Poetry Day.

Maths:

In maths this week, we completed our place value unit by rounding to the nearest 10 and finding the odd one out based on mathematical concepts. We also began our new unit: addition and subtraction. We added two 4-digit numbers, ensuring we regrouped correctly.

Next week we will explore subtraction.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week during our afternoon lessons, we looked at the architecture of Ancient Egypt and took part in our Wow Day linked to the topic. During the Wow Day, we used clay to create a cartouche, used drama to explore Howard Carter’s exploration of Tutankhamun’s tomb, created a headdress fit for a pharaoh, built a pyramid out of lolly sticks and created God and Goddess Top Trump cards. We had a great day.

We also looked at teeth – the different types and their functions – during our science lesson.

Next week we will look at digestion during science.
