Outside play
At Upton, play is incredibly important and we want our children to be able to experience every part of our outdoor provision. Please can we ask that children come to school with named wellies that they can leave at school, alongside a waterproof jacket. Our children are outside in all weathers every day.
Usernames and passwords
TTRS and AR levels are placed on a sticker on / inside their reading records
Home Learning
At Upton, our expectation for home learning is to read 3 times a week at home. We would like the children to bring their signed reading records into school daily so that these can be signed by their class teacher. Reading is incredibly important, especially as we get the children ready for the next stage of their education. We also ask that the children practise times tables regularly at home.
Thank you for your support. Please contact us if you have any questions, worries or to tell us of any success that your child experiences outside of school.
Personal Development Day and afternoons this week
Year 6 have this week covered subjects such as respect and what respect looks like inside and outside of school. We started our first day back this week reading the book 'What is Everybody did that' and used it to create our own class charters that respect everyone in our class and school. We spent time returning to our British Values and looked at our Nine Protected Characteristics, what they are and what they mean to us as individuals.
English
We have started our new text: Skellig and the children enjoyed reading about Michael and the 'strange man in the garage'. This week we spent time learning how to write complex sentences using subordinate conjunctions. We then spent the week gathering vocabulary to describe the outside and the inside of the garage from the book. Next week, Year 6 will spend time describing a new character that's introduced in the text.
Maths
This week in Year 6 have returned to dividing, focusing on showing their remainders as decimals. They ended the week bringing their dividing skills all together to answer a variety of word problems that will enable the children to show their understanding of when to show their reminders as whole numbers, fractions or decimals. Next week, Year 6 will return to fractions.
