One Childhood - One Chance

Upton’s Action-Packed Activity Week Across Kent

Unforgettable – that’s the verdict of Year 6 Upton Junior schoolchildren after a high energy week of adventure, challenge and fun.

It gave 129 pupils a fantastic opportunity to experience a wide range of outdoor and team-building activities at venues across Kent while creating lasting memories with friends and 11 staff.

The adventure began with a visit to Canoe Wild at Fordwich and Grove Ferry. The group took part in canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding and raft-building activities, developing their confidence on the water while learning valuable teamwork skills.

Next stop was the Chatham Snowsports Centre, where they tried skiing, snowboarding, tubing and tobogganing - many experienced these activities for the first time and embraced the challenge with enthusiasm.

The excitement continued at Ninja Warrior Chatham. Pupils enjoyed bouncing on the inflatables and testing themselves on the venue's obstacle courses, demonstrating determination, resilience and plenty of energy throughout the day.

The highlight of the week for many was an overnight glamping experience at Quex in Birchington. Activities included bushcraft, animal petting, archery, farm games, orienteering and mini golf.

After a busy day, pupils and staff enjoyed a delicious barbecue before gathering around a campfire for marshmallow toasting. The evening concluded with hot chocolate, cookies and a movie under canvas.

The final day began with a hearty cooked breakfast, pancakes and pastries before the children completed the final part of their Activity Week adventure and returned home full of stories to share.

Assistant Head of School Ross Kettle organised the memorable event. He said: “Throughout the week, pupils demonstrated excellent behaviour, enthusiasm and a willingness to try new experiences.

“The trip provided opportunities to build friendships, develop confidence and create memories that will stay with them for years to come.”

Rebekah Crowe-White, one of the Year 6 teachers, added: “Activity Week is a fantastic experience for our children and something they look forward to from the moment they begin their time at Upton Junior School.

“It gives them the opportunity to challenge themselves, work together, try new activities and create memories that will last a lifetime. It was wonderful to see every child fully embrace the week and enjoy everything that was on offer."

Upton Junior School would like to thank all staff, activity providers and organisers who helped make the week such a tremendous success.
