Enjoying Life at Upton

The new Year 3 group at Upton Juniors is enjoying team-building challenges, problem-solving tasks and discussions about what it means to be part of a community.
The children have settled comfortably into their school life, embracing new routines, experiences and friendships with enthusiasm and confidence.
Head of Year 3 Becky Andrews explained the importance of a smooth and positive transition into junior school.
She said: “We believe it is vital to ensure that children feel happy, safe and secure as it provides strong foundations for their wellbeing, personal development and learning.
“With this in mind, activities have been carefully planned to help children become familiar with their new environment, build positive relationships and develop a strong sense of belonging within the Upton community.
“Throughout their first days, the children have taken part in a range of enjoyable activities that encourage them to work together, communicate effectively, listen to others and appreciate the importance of kindness, cooperation and respect.”
The pupils have also enjoyed exploring the different opportunities available during their outdoor play and learning breaktimes. These experiences have provided a lovely opportunity to play together, develop new friendships and become more confident in their new surroundings.
Through choosing activities, sharing resources and playing cooperatively, the children are continuing to develop their independence, creativity and social skills.
Mrs Andrews added: “It has been wonderful to see the children forming new friendships, supporting one another and growing in confidence as they begin their Year 3 journey. We are incredibly proud of the positive start they have made and look forward to seeing them continue to flourish as Uptonians.”
Head Teacher Darci Arthur said the transition so far has been very positive. She added: “I see lots of happy, excited and smiling children in our Year 3.
“Expert professionals are on hand to help guide them on their way and listen to any concerns they may have and offer reassurance and guidance.
“Families are also considered and we ensure that they get updates on how their children are settling in.”
Upton Juniors is part of the Viking Academy Trust with partner schools Chilton Primary and Ramsgate Arts Primary.
