Term 6: My Home, Your Home
This term in Year 4 we are learning about Broadstairs. We will be learning about the history of the town and what makes it a great place to live and visit. We will also be looking at the classification of animals and how the environment can change and pose dangers. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!
We look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.
English:
This week in English we started the term by looking at migrants and refugees and why they may flee their home country. This is in preparation for our new text: ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’. We wrote a non-chronological report about migration using appropriate text features. We also started to read our new book and were introduced to some of the characters.
Next week we will be writing descriptions of some of the characters in the book.
Maths:
In maths this week, we began our shape and symmetry unit. This started with exploring angles including ordering right angles, obtuse and acute angles by size. We made an angle maker using split pins and card, and used angle ‘munchers’ to test if angles were right angles or not.
Next week we will be looking at angles within shapes as well as 2D shapes, including quadrilaterals and triangles.
Thematic Curriculum:
PSHE has been the focus of our afternoon lessons this week. We began the week by discovering what Environmental Day (5th June) is all about and explored climate change and how it has impacted our lives. We also explored what community means to us and which communities we belong to. Finally, we ended the week by learning about Human Rights and discrimination.
Next week we will begin our 'My Home, Your Home' topic based around Broadstairs.
