Term 6: My Home, Your Home

This term in Year 4 we are learning about Broadstairs. We will be learning about the history of the town and what makes it a great place to live and visit. We will also be looking at the classification of animals and how the environment can change and pose dangers. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

This will be the last week for homework. Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term.

English:

This week in English, we rewrote Ahmet’s journey from Syria, through Greece and France and finally to England. The focus was to use fronted adverbials throughout to add more information. We continued with the text and are looking forward to finding out whether the children get to meet the Queen or not.

Next week we will write a news report detailing the events in London.

Maths:

In maths this week, we began to look at different 3D shapes. We looked at the properties of the shapes, including the number of faces, edges and vertices. We also named the 2D shapes that the 3D shapes were made from. We then made some 3D models using multi-link cubes and tried to fit them together to form a cube.

Next week we will continue to explore 3D shapes and complete our end-of-term assessments.

Thematic Curriculum:

In Thematic this week our focus was science and how we can group animals. We looked at the qualities of different animals and then grouped them using this information. We used closed questions to create classification keys and then looked at the impact that building a new theme park would have on the environment.

Next week we will complete a Thematic quiz and will explore Sikh festivals.
