As we reach the end of the final week of term, we have, once again lots to celebrate in the life of Year 3!
📖 RE
This week, we’ve introduced the children to Judaism- what it means to be Jewish and the importance of faith and tradition in Jewish life. We talked about how Judaism traces back thousands of years and how it has influenced other major religions, like Christianity and Islam. The children were fascinated to learn about the rich cultural and spiritual heritage that comes with this ancient faith.
One of the central parts of our learning, has been examining the Ten Commandments, which the children learnt, are a set of moral guidelines given to the Jewish people by God. We also delved into the Torah, which is the most sacred text in Judaism. The children were particularly intrigued by how the Torah is read during Jewish worship services, with great respect and care, and how it teaches not only religious practices but also values like fairness and compassion.
Throughout our lessons, the children have participated in lively discussions, asked thoughtful questions, and engaged in creative activities to deepen their understanding. It’s been a rewarding experience for the children.
🔢 Maths
This week in Maths, we have been working hard to finish off our Statistics topic. We have been putting all our learning into practice and developing our confidence in collecting, presenting and interpreting data.
We focused on drawing bar charts, making sure that our charts were neat, accurate and easy to read. We discussed the importance of giving our charts a clear title, labelling the axes correctly and using an appropriate scale. We took great care when drawing our bars and checking that the information was presented accurately. Once our bar charts were complete, we looked closely at the information and practised writing statements about what the data showed.
✏️ English
This week in English, we have been putting our fantastic writing skills to work by creating our very own information pages all about magnets! This has been a wonderful opportunity to combine our English learning with the exciting knowledge we have gained throughout our Thematic topic.
We began by exploring the key features of an information text, discussing how these help to organise facts and make information clear, interesting and easy for the reader to understand. We looked closely at the importance of using headings and subheadings to introduce different sections, as well as including labelled diagrams and captions to provide extra detail and support our explanations. We also explored how a glossary can help readers understand new or unfamiliar vocabulary.
We enjoyed using our knowledge of magnets to explain how they work, explore magnetic and non-magnetic materials, and describe the different ways magnets are used. We challenged ourselves to include interesting facts, accurate scientific vocabulary and clear explanations to teach our readers all about this fascinating topic.
We worked hard to present our learning neatly and ensure that all the important features of an information text were included.
