One Childhood - One Chance

06.11.26 Year 3 Weekly News

What a fantastic start to the year it’s been for our Year 3 children!

🌟 Thank You for Your Continued Support! 🌟

A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our Parent–Teacher meetings this week. It was an absolute pleasure speaking with you about your wonderful children, celebrating their achievements and discussing the fantastic progress they are making in their learning. It is always lovely to share their successes and work together to support their next steps.

Following on from our meetings, we will be placing a big focus on times tables in Year 3. We would really appreciate your support in encouraging your child to use TTRS regularly at home. Little and often really does make a big difference in building confidence, fluency and quick recall!

Reading is equally important! We ask that all children read every day, complete their reading quizzes at home and bring their reading journals into school regularly. Developing strong reading habits is fundamental to children's progress across all areas of learning.

To ensure everyone is keeping on track, we will be contacting parents if we notice that reading journals are not being brought into school or reading quizzes are not being completed at home. These are essential routines that make a real difference to children's learning and progress.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership. By working together, we can help every child grow in confidence, develop a love of learning and achieve their very best! 🌟

ðŸŒąPersonal Development Week

This week, we have been exploring Personal Development, and as such, learning has focused on protected characteristics. As part of our curriculum, we’ve been learning specifically about: race, religion or beliefs, pregnancy or maternity. We’ve also been exploring different types of relationships that exist and how we can build healthy ones. We’ve discussed how relationships can be with family, friends, classmates, teachers, and even ourselves.

Children have also learnt:

  • about different types of relationships (friends, family, relatives).

  • to understand civil partnerships and marriages.

  • to understand what cyber bullying is and how to keep safe online.

In the coming weeks, classrooms and playgrounds will focus on guiding children through key strategies for building healthy relationships. Learning to develop meaningful and positive connections early in life sets the foundation for children to have strong interpersonal skills that can benefit them throughout their lives.

Thematic : ðŸŠĻ PreHistory Rocks! ðŸĶĢ

Get ready for a journey back in time!

Next week, we will be launching our exciting new thematic topic, ‘PreHistory Rocks!’, where we will travel thousands of years into the past to discover what life was like during the Stone Age.

We will explore how prehistoric people lived, what they ate, where they sheltered and how they survived without the modern comforts we enjoy today.

To kick-start our learning, we will be having a very special WOW Day on Monday! 🌟

The children will take part in a range of exciting, hands-on activities designed to spark their curiosity, ignite their imaginations and bring the Stone Age to life!

We can't wait to begin our prehistoric adventure and discover what amazing things the past has to teach us.

Let the Stone Age adventure begin! ðŸĶīðŸŠĻ

ðŸ”Ē Maths

This week in Maths, we have been developing our mental addition skills by exploring a range of strategies to help us add numbers efficiently and confidently.

We have been using part-part-whole models to partition numbers and understand how they fit together. We have also used Dienes blocks to support us when adding multiples of 10 to three-digit numbers.

In addition, we have been practising the Make 10 strategy, helping us use our number bonds to make calculations quicker and easier.

Next week, we will build on our learning by exploring different mental strategies for subtraction!

✏ïļ English:

This week in English, we have started exploring our exciting new book, 'Gregory Cool'. The story follows Gregory as he travels to Tobago to spend four weeks with his grandparents.

The children have been exploring the thoughts and feelings of the main character, considering how Gregory might feel as he adjusts to a new environment and experiences a different way of life.

We have been developing our use of emotive language, choosing vocabulary carefully to express feelings and emotions. The children have put these skills into practise by writing a letter in role as Gregory, sharing his thoughts and feelings.

Next week, we will build on our learning by developing our recount writing skills, focusing on writing a detailed and engaging letter from Gregory's perspective of the whole trip.
