Key Messages for next week…
- Monday is PE for all of Year 4. Please send the children in wearing their PE kit.
- Tuesday is swimming for 4B and 4G. Please ensure that full swimming kit is brought in on that day. If your child cannot take part, please contact their teacher or the office to explain why. Children MUST have a swim cap and earrings removed.
- Children can come to school in their PE kit on swimming days.
- Please ensure children are wearing correct school uniform and shoes, including a tie.
- Please ensure children are bringing in their water bottles every day, preferably with a sports cap.
Weekly homework tasks:
Reading daily – please bring in your reading record signed by an adult.
TTRS - at least 3 times a week for 10 minutes.
Mathletics – Friday to Friday
Spelling – Please choose approximately 5 words from the Year 3/4 word list to complete ‘look, say, cover, write, check’. This should be completed in the orange Home Learning book and returned to school to be checked by the class teacher.

Term 1: Make Some Noise
This term in Year 4 we are learning about Sound. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!
We look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.
English:
This week in English, we finished reading our first text of the year, ‘Gregory Cool’. We wrote book reviews to express our opinion and wrote a comparative setting description of Broadstairs and Tobago. We included expanded noun phrases in our writing to add description and detail.
Next week we will begin our new text, ‘Leon and the Place Between’.
Maths:
In maths this week, we concluded Unit 1 by rounding 4-digit numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. We also completed our post-unit quiz.
Next week we will begin our new unit: addition and subtraction.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week we continued to learn about sound. We found out what happens when we move further away from a sound source and conducted a mini experiment to prove it. We also explored what happens when soundwaves reach our ears. We looked at the inner workings of the ear and learnt the names of key parts.
Next week we will continue to explore sound by looking at how we can alter the loudness of sound and what happens to the sound produced when an item is dropped from different heights.
Colour Run:
We concluded the week with a fantastic colour run, where the children spent time having fun with their friends and family, having powdered paint thrown at them. It was wonderful to see so many smiling (and brightly coloured) faces.
