  • Tuesday is swimming for 4B and 4G. Please ensure that full swimming kit is brought in on that day. If your child cannot take part, please contact their teacher or the office to explain why. Children MUST have a swim cap and earrings removed.
  • Children can come to school in their PE kit on swimming days.
  • Please ensure children are wearing correct school uniform and shoes, including a tie.
  • Please ensure children are bringing in their water bottles every day, preferably with a sports cap.

Weekly homework tasks:

Reading daily – please bring in your reading record signed by an adult.

TTRS - at least 3 times a week for 10 minutes.

Mathletics – Friday to Friday

Spelling – Please choose approximately 5 words from the Year 3/4 word list to complete ‘look, say, cover, write, check’. This should be completed in the orange Home Learning book and returned to school to be checked by the class teacher.

Term 1: Make Some Noise

This term in Year 4 we are learning about Sound. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term.

We have had some great pieces of homework so far and are looking forward to seeing some more fabulous projects.

English:

This week in English, we started to read Leon and the Place Between. We wrote a setting description for the tent and fairground using exciting adjectives. We also wrote a character description for Abdul Kazam, ensuring we used vocabulary to create a magical and mystical feeling. To help bring our book to life, we acted out some scenes, making sure that we used appropriate body language and facial expressions.

Next week we will write a playscript for a scene in the book. We will also be celebrating National Poetry Day on Thursday.

Maths:

In maths this week we began our addition and subtraction unit. We used column addition and subtraction to calculate, ensuring we regrouped when necessary. We used place value counters to help us to see how the regrouping works.

Next week we will continue to calculate by adding and subtracting through one-step and multi-step problems.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week we continued to learn about sound. We conducted an experiment to see how the soundwaves changed when a drum was hit with more or less force. We also conducted an experiment to see if dropping a marble from different heights would affect the intensity of the sound produced.

Next week we will look at a key scientist and explore the effects of noise pollution.
