Term 2: Walk Like an Egyptian
This term in Year 4 we are learning about the Ancient Egyptians. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term.
We look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.
English:
This week in English, we crossed over with our Thematic topic of ancient Egypt by writing instructions for how to mummify a body. We used time conjunctions to begin each step and adverbs to give more detailed instructions. We also used imperative (bossy) verbs to create the steps.
During this week’s Book Banter session, we created a Reading River in the hall and the children enjoyed sharing stories with each other across classes in the year group.
Next week we will conclude our work linked to Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx by writing a dialogue between Marcy and the god Thoth.
Maths:
In maths this week, we began our new unit: discrete and continuous data. Our focus has been on pictograms, and we have read, interpreted, compared and drawn our own pictograms. We talked about scales and using a key and a title to make the information clear to the reader.
Next week we will continue with our unit by looking at and drawing bar charts.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week during our afternoon lessons, we delved further into the ancient Egyptian civilisation. First, we looked at Egyptian architecture and how it has influenced buildings in the modern world. We looked at the unique features of the architecture and discussed why they may have been included. We also explored different Egyptian sources and discussed the reliability of primary and secondary sources.
Next week we have our Egyptian Wow day and will begin our science linked to the topic.
Christmas has also arrived at Upton with the children starting work on their artwork for the hoops that will be assembled in the hall.
