We have had a fabulous week in Year 4 this week. Take a look at what we have been up to…

Key Messages for next week…

Friday 6th – Number Day: children can come dressed as rockstars or in something with a number on it.

  • Tuesday is swimming for 4B and 4G. Please ensure that full swimming kit is brought in on that day. If your child cannot take part, please contact their teacher or the office to explain why. Children MUST have a swim cap and earrings removed.
  • Children can come to school in their PE kit on swimming days.
  • Please ensure children are wearing correct school uniform and shoes, including a tie.
  • Please ensure children are bringing in their water bottles every day, preferably with a sports cap.
  • Wellies are needed so that the children can access the field during break and lunch times.

Weekly homework tasks:

Reading daily – please bring in your reading record signed by an adult.

TTRS - at least 3 times a week for 10 minutes.

Mathletics – Friday to Friday

Spelling – Please choose approximately 5 words from the Year 3/4 word list to complete ‘look, say, cover, write, check’. This should be completed in the orange Home Learning book and returned to school to be checked by the class teacher.

Please note, Mathletics has a different login to AR and TTRS.

***Well done to everyone who has received a certificate so far for either Mathletics or TTRS***

Term 3: Cracking the Earth’s Core

This term in Year 4 we are learning about earthquakes and volcanoes. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term.

The children have been working exceptionally hard on their homework projects this term. Here are some more of the great projects we have received:

English:

This week in English, we finished the book: I Survived the Eruption of Mount St. Helens 1980’ and began writing our own volcano survival story. We have written the opening and are beginning to build tension as the volcano awakens, ensuring we are developing the plot, setting and characters.

Next week we will finish our narratives and will read and write some poetry.

Maths:

In maths this week, we continued to explore fractions by reading and writing mixed numbers and improper fractions.

Next week we will convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions and will begin to add and subtract fractions.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week during our afternoon lessons, we continued with our earthquakes and volcanoes topic by researching and presenting information about the tectonic activity in different regions around the world. We also looked at how different shapes can provide rigidity and stability and used this knowledge to build our own earthquake-proof structures using a range of resources.

Next week we will look at compass points and grid references as well as explore Pompeii and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
