Term 5: Water World

This term in Year 4 we are learning about rivers and the water cycle. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term. We look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.

English:

This week in English, we started our new text: Song of the Dolphin Boy. We read and performed the poem from the book and wrote our own poem about the sea. We used figurative language and other poetic devices such as rhyme and rhythm.

Next week we will be writing an entwined character and setting description using adjectives for effect.

Maths:

In maths this week, we began our unit on perimeter and area. We used a combination of measurements to calculate the perimeter of rectangles using a variety of methods.

Next week we will continue to work with perimeter including rectilinear shapes. We will also explore what area is.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week during our afternoon lessons, we have been looking at how we can keep safe and take responsibility for our actions during our PSHE sessions. We made a road safety poster to help teach others how to behave on roads safely.

In RE, we looked at the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi and created replica floats as a class.

Next week we will take a look at the features of rivers and the water cycle.
