Term 5: Water World
This term in Year 4 we are learning about rivers and the Water Cycle. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term. We look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.
English:
This week in English, we continued to read about the adventures of Finn and the dolphins. We looked at how pollution is affecting our rivers and oceans and wrote an entwined character and setting description using adjectives for effect.
Next week we will build our understanding of narratives and create a non-chronological report on our own mythical creature.
Maths:
In maths this week, we found the perimeter of rectilinear shapes using centimetres and metres. In addition to this, we calculated the area of rectangles using the formula area = length x width, ensuring the use of cm squared.
Next week we will complete our work on area.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week during our afternoon lessons, we looked at the features of rivers and made a labelled model of one, ensuring there was a source, mouth and meander. We also explored the water cycle and learnt about the different changes of state that occur. We made a diorama of the water cycle and produced labels to explain the process.
Next week we will be locating rivers in the UK and around the world.
Trip to Westgate Gardens, Canterbury
On Wednesday, 4G and 4R took a trip to Canterbury to look at the river Stour and surrounding areas. Whilst there, they walked around Hambrook Marshes and identified many natural features of the area. At the riverside, the children did some pond dipping, trying to spot the different creatures that live in the river. We had a fabulous day.
