Term 6: My Home, Your Home
This term in Year 4 we are learning about our local town – Broadstairs. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term; we look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.
English:
This week in English, we began our new text – The Boy at the Back of the Class. A thought-provoking book centred around a ‘Refugee Kid’ who is the new boy at school. It follows the story of hope and friendship. The children wrote a descriptive paragraph about lion eyes – the way Ahmet’s eyes are described in the book. The children focused on using improved vocabulary within expanded noun phrases.
Next week we will describe a pomegranate.
Maths:
In maths this week, we completed our problem-solving unit by exploring more measurement and money problems. The children used the strategies of trial and improvement and systematic thinking to help them solve the problems.
Next term we will begin our unit on shape.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week during our afternoon lessons, we focused on community during our PSHE lessons. We explored what it means to be a part of a community and the importance of kindness. We looked at what discrimination is and how we can help if we witness any taking place.
On Friday, we enjoyed our Italian Wow Day. Throughout the day, children took part in a range of activities, including making pasta shapes from fresh pasta, completing a Kahoot quiz, learning some Italian and opera and making a Roman laurel wreath crown. We were also visited by Animate Art and the children created some pieces of art to go on display.
Next week we will be looking at what we love about Broadstairs and exploring 4-figure grid references and OS symbols.
MTC update
The majority of children in Year 4 have now completed their Official Multiplication Tables Check set by the government. They all worked exceptionally hard and showed a mature attitude towards the test. The remaining children in Year 4 will complete the check early next week.
