Term 6: My Home, Your Home
This term in Year 4 we are learning about our local town - Broadstairs. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. Alternatively, digital homework can be emailed to the class teacher. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term; we look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.
English:
This week in English, we continued to read The Boy at the Back of the Class. Our focus was to write a dialogue between Alexa and one of her friends trying to find out more about Ahmet. We wrote the spoken words, then added the punctuation and finally included the reporting clause (using synonyms for said) and adverbials. We used our Oracy skills to read through our work to check if it made sense.
Next week we will begin to write a narrative of Ahmet’s journey.
Maths:
In maths this week, we concluded our shape unit. We explored different types of quadrilaterals and triangles. We also looked at different kinds of symmetry and completed our post-unit quiz.
Next week we will begin our unit on position and direction, including coordinates.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week during our afternoon lessons, we explored the history of Broadstairs and compared the seafront of today with the Victorian Era. On Thursday, we went on our Town Trail around Broadstairs recording data about the footfall of businesses and the types of land use around the town. We used this data to create a fieldwork project including bar charts and tally charts.
During the afternoons, the children had a trip to St Peter’s church where they learnt about different Christian festivals and the story of St Peter and the keys to heaven.
Next week we will compare the UK to Italy and investigate how land use is affected by topography.
