English:

This week in English, we began our new text: I Survived the Eruption of Mt St Helens. We wrote a character description of Skeleton Woman using expanded noun phrases. We carefully selected vocabulary to create the intended atmosphere.

Next week we will write a setting description of the mountain before and after the eruption.

Maths:

In maths this week, we completed multiplication calculations for a 2-digit number multiplied by a single digit, using the distributive law. We partitioned the larger number and multiplied each factor by the single digit then added to find the final product.

Next week we will be using the column method to multiply 2-digit and 3-digit numbers by a single digit.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week during our afternoon lessons, we focused on PSHE. We looked at the protected characteristics (race, age, gender, religion) and created an inclusive piece of art. We then looked at healthy relationships and how that links to marriage. Finally, we looked at the key attributes to good teamwork and worked collaboratively to survive a desert island stranding and disaster.

Next week we will begin our new topic: Crackin’ the Earth’s Core, and will look at how volcanoes and earthquakes are produced.
