This week, the children read ‘The Lady of Shallot.’ It is a narrative rhyming poem about a young woman who is trapped in a tower on an island who is cursed. She can only see the world outside through a mirror, where she sits all day weaving. The children focused on the opening stanzas of the poem, paying close attention to the castle description and its surroundings. After performing the poem, the children wrote their own descriptive poem, which will be set on a watercoloured background of the setting. Next week, the children will be writing a non-chronological report about North America, which links to their thematic learning through the term.
Maths
This week, the children have been reading and interpreting line graphs. They have discovered how line graphs are used, how to gather information from them and how to compare two sets of data. Next week, the children will be working on drawing their own line graphs to represent a set of data.
Thematic
This week, the children finished their learning on North America by creating group maps and fact files for a chosen North American country. The children worked together to create an informative poster to share with the class. Every class had the opportunity to release their butterflies this week too! What a wonderful few weeks it was, watching them transform into beautiful Monarch butterflies! Next week, the children will be learning about Judaism in RE.
Hello Yellow Day
On Friday, the children wore yellow to celebrate Young Minds Hello Yellow Day. It was a fabulous see of sunshine!
Art Competition
Term 1’s Art Competition is inspired by Henri Rousseau and his famous Jungle paintings. Rousseau’s work often captured dreamlike visions filled with exotic plants, wild animals, and imaginative scenes. Now it’s your turn to do the same!
Your task is to create an artwork in any medium (painting, drawing, digital art, collage, or mixed media) that communicates a dream you have had – just as Rousseau brought his dreams to life through his Jungle scenes. The deadline is the end of Term 1 and you must submit your artwork to Mr Mason. Winners and selected works will be featured in a special exhibition in Term 2.
Let your imagination roam free – whether your dream takes place in a jungle, under the sea, or on another planet, we can’t wait to see it come alive in your art!

Homework
- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.
- All children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.
