Year 6 Weekly News – 10.10.25
This Week in Year 6...
We couldn’t begin this week’s blog without celebrating our amazing trip to the Powell-Cotton Museum! The children’s learning truly came alive as they explored and handled a fascinating array of artifacts linked to our Charles Darwin topic. From fossils and bones to animal adaptations and plant classifications, the museum offered a hands-on experience that deepened their understanding. A gentle stroll through Birchington, following a train ride from Broadstairs, added to the adventure and brought our thematic learning to life.
English
This week, the children finished reading Floodland. Our key character, Zoe, was finally reunited with her family after a perilous and emotional journey. The children wrote newspaper reports capturing the highs and lows of her quest, showcasing empathy and narrative insight. Next week, we’ll be diving into non-chronological report writing, building on their research and writing skills based upon climate change.
Maths
We’ve continued to tackle tricky multiplication and long division this week. The children applied their skills to a range of problems, demonstrating fantastic perseverance and mathematical reasoning. Their ability to explain their thinking and solve challenges has been truly impressive!
Thematic Curriculum
Our week was dominated by our trip to the Powell-Cotton Museum, where the children applied their learning from across the term. In addition, they completed their diagnostic thematic assessments, showcasing how well they’ve understood and retained key concepts. Next week, our afternoons will be dedicated to RE lessons, exploring beliefs and values.
Term 1 Art Competition
