Year 6 Weekly News – 31st October 2025

Welcome back to Term 2! We’ve had a purposeful start to the term with a strong focus on personal development. This week, our PSHE lessons have centred around the Nine Protected Characteristics, with thoughtful discussions on disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, and religion and beliefs.
📚 English
We’ve launched into our new text, Viking Boy. The children were captivated by the dramatic opening and have written vivid descriptions of the burning of the longhouse—a pivotal moment that sets the story in motion. Next week, we’ll delve deeper into the characters and explore how they influence the protagonist’s journey.
➗ Maths
This week’s focus has been on BIDMAS—the order of operations. Building on last term’s learning, the children have tackled a variety of BIDMAS problems and will continue this next week, applying their understanding to algebraic questions.
🌍 Thematic Curriculum
With personal development taking centre stage, we’ve had just one Thematic lesson this week. It served as an introduction to our new unit: My Home, My Country, where we’ll explore invaders along the UK coastline, starting with the Vikings.
