Week Ending 16/10/2026

Important Messages and Dates:
What an exciting week Year 6 had this week. We all had a wonderful time at The Powell-Cotton museum. Here are some pictures:

Outside play
At Upton, play is incredibly important and we want our children to be able to experience every part of our outdoor provision. Please can we ask that children come to school with named wellies that they can leave at school, alongside a waterproof jacket. Our children are outside in all weathers every day.
Usernames and passwords
TTRS and AR levels are placed on a sticker on / inside their reading records
Home Learning
At Upton, our expectation for home learning is to read 3 times a week at home. We would like the children to bring their signed reading records into school daily so that these can be signed by their class teacher. Reading is incredibly important, especially as we get the children ready for the next stage of their education. We also ask that the children practise times tables regularly at home.
Thank you for your support. Please contact us if you have any questions, worries or to tell us of any success that your child experiences outside of school!
- Swimming for Year 6 is on Mondays.
- PE (dancing or netball) is on Tuesdays
-23rd October – Last Day of Term 1
English
This week the children stepped away from fictional writing and started their non-chronological report about climate change. We have spent time talking and researching what climate change is, the effects of climate change and how we can help. We focused our writing on using subject specific vocabulary, using subheadings and using a formal tone throughout.
Maths
This week we have looked at multiplying using the short method and the long method and then problem-solving. If the children would like to practice their long multiplication, there are some questions at the bottom of this BLOG that the children can use. Next week we will move on to dividing.
Thematic
We have finished our Term 1 topic: Darwin's Delights. We finished the week with a quiz and our visit to the Powel-Cotton museum. Next week, Year 6 will return to RE.
