One Childhood - One Chance

02/03/2020 - 4G Canterbury Roman Museum

4G had an excellent day out at the Roman museum in Canterbury, getting up close and hands on with real, local history.

After exploring the underground remains of a Roman Town house, pupils in 4G took part in a Roman Technology workshop. During the session, children minted their own Roman coins, fired miniature catapults (onagers), ground flour to make Roman bread and learnt about cutting edge Roman technology such as under floor heating (hypocaust).

In the afternoon, children took part in a Romans' Everyday Life workshop and got to handle real Roman artefacts which were discovered underneath Canterbury when they were building the Whitefriars complex. This helped children get a real understanding for what life must have been like in Canterbury almost 2000 years ago.

A great day was had by all!
