Mr Walker recommends...Escape from Shangri-La by Michael Morpurgo

I absolutely love reading and when i'm not at work i'll often read a book each day late into the night...I just can't put them down. This book was great for a short read, especially because it linked so well with the recent VE Day celebrations, and it kept me hooked from the moment I began!
Cessie is about 12 years old when a stranger arrives at her house claiming to be her grandfather. No-one knows for sure because her dad hasn't seen him since he was 6 years old. The family welcomes 'Popsicle' into the home - her father with reservations - but some parts of his past remain unclear even to him. While everyone else thinks Popsicle is losing his mind and put him in a home, Cessie is determined to help him piece together the things he DOES remember. These memories will lead Cessie into adventure and link to incredible events that occurred on the beaches of Dunkirk during WWII.
