6B - The History of Climate Change!
Today, we looked at the history of Climate change focussing on what it is, how climate has changed over time and what the effects of climate change are. The children were then tasked with writing a letter to Mr Tshisekedi, the President of Congo to explain to him why it is important that he puts a stop to deforestation of the Congo Basin which will in turn help reduce the effects of climate change.
Here are some example letters from 6B:
Dear Mr Tshisekedi,
I am writing to you today to explain why it is important that you put a stop to deforestation. I strongly believe that it should stop and it is now my job to show you why.
There are many causes to global warming including deforestation.
Deforestation is one of the biggest sources of carbon dioxide, because when trees are cut down the carbon stored within them goes into the air.
We need trees to help oxygen flow into our air. Without trees it would be really hard to breathe, the air will be full of greenhouse gases, and this will make climate change worse. Do you really want this to happen? What you are doing -by cutting down so many trees - affects the entire world and if everyone stopped, our world would be a better place.
Thank you for taking time to read this letter and I hope you see how deforestation affects the earth. Please take my point of view into consideration and stop deforestation now.
Yours sincerely,
Iris
Dear Mr Tshisekedi,
I am writing to you to warn you about deforestation. I believe that if you keep cutting down your lovely forest that you will increase climate change and where you and your people live the world that we live in will be hotter and even more houses will be built.
More people than ever have been cutting down trees and that means that glaciers and ice burgs are melting and Polar bears are going to die because they have no home. Due to deforestation more animals are becoming extinct and are homeless. If somebody burnt down your house and you tried to find a new one but they had burnt down them all that is how every animal feels when we increase climate change. Think about the consequences of what you are doing and think of the animals before you are hurting and killing before you. YOU CAN AND SHOULD BE THE FIRST TO MAKE A DIFFRECE.
Yours sincerely
Gracie
Dear Mr Tshisekedi,
I am writing to you to make you aware and inform of climate change and global warming. So, let's start off with the Arctic and all the animals that live there
Because of climate change the world is heating up and getting warmer this means that polar bears and lots more animals are getting extinct and all the ice is melting causing the temperature in the water to rise and get warmer for all the animals.
Cows make an impact on global warming as cows and other ruminant animals (like goats and sheep) emit methane, a potent greenhouse gas, as they digest grasses and plants. As well as this global occurs when carbon dioxide (CO2) and other air pollutants and greenhouse gases collect in the atmosphere and absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced off the earth's surface. ... That's what's known as the greenhouse effect.
These are just a few things that effect global warming and climate change there are many others like cutting down the trees and animals homes are being destroyed because of what we are doing we must act fast as we don’t know how long we can wait before it to late. Do you really want your kids and grandkids to live in a world that we destroyed and rewind? Please think about your choices and decisions carefully!
Isobel
Dear Mr Tshisekedi,
I am writing to you because I have a serious matter on my hands that can affect the whole world.I'm not trying to be rude but because of your actions by cutting down those trees have affected the world and is making global warming walk up to our door if were not careful the entire population of the world could be halved because of this. Also, your harming animals that need to live their life! You are harming them! You may think oh there just animals but there just as important as us if not then there more important than us!
Cutting down trees affects animals like sloths' monkeys and humans and other animals even if they do not live-in trees it still affects them and it is important that we stop that and now.
Not only are you affecting others but you're also harming the people you love and yourself if you don’t stop this now than in the future it won't be as nice as we hoped for it will end up being the end of mankind and animals.
I hope I have managed to persuade you to stop cutting down so many trees also maybe you could throw your trash in the bin... Just a thought.
Yours sincerely
Ellie
Dear Mr Tshisekedi,
I am writing to you to because you are letting deforestation happen and be a thing in your country! This is causing side effects like extinction sea rising levels and more, you need to stop this so our world can stay alive and have it’s beauties!
My first reason of this is that all these animals that you are taking there homes from to build houses ext. Isn’t good because I’m sure there are other places to build these home and farms, also having too many farms around in one spot causes ALOT of pollution because cows produce polluting gasses including methane through belching and create over three more gasses with it.
Another reason why you should be aware of what you are doing to your country is that there are loads of causes to deforestation such as: farming, fertilizers, gas drilling and oil drilling. Those are the causes of deforestation and these are happening in your country which is causing DE-FOREST-ATION. You are also wondering how this is happening t your country, the answer is that in every-day life people produce gas through cars and homes but a solution to stop that is using electric cars and houses to use in everyday life!
Sincerely Ameilia
