Pupil Premium

What is the pupil premium?

The pupil premium is extra money for schools to help disadvantaged pupils of all abilities achieve their full potential.

The amount of pupil premium funding schools receive is decided by how many disadvantaged pupils they have – schools then receive funding per pupil premium-eligible child.

Free School Meals

There are now two types of Free School Meal eligibility - 'Targeted' and 'Expanded'

Your child can get targeted free school meals if you get any of the following benefits:

  • Income-related ESA

  • Income Support

  • Income-based JSA

  • Universal Credit (take home pay of £7,400 or less)

  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • Guarantee element of Pension Credit.

If your Universal Credit take home is over £7,400, you can get extended free school meals.

Click Here to apply for Free School Meals, or contact the school office who will be happy to support your application.

Full information is available here: Apply for free school meals - Kent County Council

If you are joining Upton from an Infant School, we encourage you to apply for free school meals as universal infant school meals end at the end of Year 2.
